PURELIFE's Organic Patchouli Oil (Pogostemon cablin) is from Indonesia is a 100% Pure Therapeutic Quality Essential Oil.
Patchouli Essential Oil is also called patchouly or pachouli. It is from a small bushy herb with pale pink flowers and is in the mint family. Patchouli is a native plant to the tropical regions of Asia, but also widely grown in Indonesia. Our Patchouli Essential Oil is produced from the leaves of the Indonesian plant. The leaves are lightly fermented then scalded before the oil is extracted by steam distillation – this isn’t typical of most extraction processes, but it is necessary with patchouli to gain the notable scent.
Patchouli Essential Oil is a favorite among countercultural individuals and perfume makers alike. It is commonly used in soaps, air fresheners, and cosmetics.
Patchouli Essential Oil contains patchoulol, norpatchoulenol, alpha and beta patchoulene, pogostol, alpha bulnesene, alpha guaiene, caryophyllene, and seychellene. Unlike the rest of the mint family, patchouli does not contain menthol.
Patchouli Essential Oil has a distinct heady fragrance. In ancient times, patchouli was used to mask personal odors and as an insect repellant. It was also commonly added to incense. Recently, it has been used as an alternative treatment for depression, wounds, inflammation, sexual dysfunction, as an astringent, fungicide, tonic, insecticide, cicatrisant, and sedative.
In the 1700’s, Chinese traders used dried patchouli when traveling through the Middle East to prevent moths from laying eggs in their silks. From there it spread throughout Europe and became a symbol of luxury. It is rumored that Queen Victoria perfumed her linens with patchouli.
Patchouli Essential Oil has a long lasting scent, so use a top note to balance your blends containing patchouli. We suggest lavender, lemon, bergamot, lime, and grapefruit.
