PURELIFE's Expressed Lime Oil (Citrus aurantifolia) is from Mexico and is 100% Pure and of Therapeutic Quality produced from fresh peel by cold expression.
Lime Essential Oil has a similar aroma to that of distilled lime, but is better, in our opinion is better – it is fresh, citrusy, and sweeter in its aroma. Lime Essential Oil is PHOTOTOXIC meaning you should not use it directly on the skin, especially before going in the sun or tanning. Despite the phototoxicity, most aromatherapists choose Lime Essential Oil over the distilled version.
Lime Essential Oil has historically been used in similar manners, and sometimes interchangeably with Lemon Essential Oil. The aromas are completely different but both are antiseptic, help with colds and flus, poor appetite, and infections.
It is important to note that the descriptions of historical uses of all of our essential oils are not recommendations for use – they are merely interesting pieces of historical information.
The following is how Lime Essential Oil is used in traditional Chinese medicine, but is in no way a guideline for use nor is it claiming to be proof of any treatments or results.
Lime Essential Oil is believed to have the following properties in Chinese medicine:
- Wood as a main element
- Cold and Dry
- Tightens the Skin
- Increases guardian Qi
- Restorative qualities
Lime Essential Oil is phototoxic, meaning it will react with the skin if exposed to sun or tanning beds (lime juice squeezed directly from a lime also has these effects) and no more than a maximum concentration of 0.7% should be used. To be safe – you should thoroughly dilute your Lime Essential Oil. Also, using fresh oil and disposing of old oil will help with this. Personally, we refrigerate our citrus oils if we think they will last longer than 2 months, and we discard any that are 6 months or older.
